Therapeutic Areas

Radiology/Imaging

Medical Imaging refers to several different technologies that are used to view the human body in order to diagnose, monitor or treat medical conditions. Different medical imaging modalities include X-ray, Ultrasound, Computed Tomography Scan (CT-Scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) and Nuclear Imaging. Each type of these modalities gives different information about the area of the body being studied or treated or provides information about the effectiveness of medical treatments.

Obstacles and Challenges

  • Several types of products (medical devices: injectors, disposables: imaging accessories and pharmaceuticals: contrast media) require adequate regulatory knowledge.
  • Price competitive and saturated market requires having quite a lot of advantages in order to be a key player in the market.

  • Commercial excellence focusing on an offensive client-oriented growth strategy
  • Sales force effectiveness directed by multidimensional targets such as volume, profit, and customer satisfaction
  • MEALIS technical expertise providing the adequate consultancy for end users

Nuclear Medicine

Nuclear medicine is a branch of medical imaging that uses small amounts of radioactive material to diagnose, determine the severity and treat a variety of diseases including many types of cancers, heart disease, gastrointestinal, endocrine, neurological disorders and other abnormalities within the body.
Before the test, small amounts of radioactive materials are introduced into the body either by injection, swallowing or inhalation and a special camera is used to detect radioactivity.

Obstacles and Challenges

  • Complicated logistics for nuclear medicine products
  • Different regulatory regulations
  • Technical expertise needed to support in the application

MEALIS Expertise

  • Well experienced logistic team from MEALIS and local partners in the nuclear medicine field
  • Regulatory team experienced in different types of products

Gastroenterology

Gastroenterology is the branch of medicine focusing on the digestive system (which includes organs from mouth into the anus) and its disorders.
Gastroenterologists perform a number of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including colonoscopy, endoscopy, endoscopic retrograde cholangiancreatography (ERCP), endoscopic ultrasound and liver biopsy.

Obstacles and Challenges

  • Technology behind endoscopy is changing and improving to increase early detection, which will impose more cost and adoption timeframe.
  • Inflammatory bowel disease is a field that has seen many changes over the past few years, as there has been a big increase in the number and types of drugs available.
  • Chronic Constipation (CC) is a common functional gastrointestinal disorder, with prevalence in the general population of approximately 20%. Understanding the underlying etiology of CC is necessary to determine the most appropriate therapeutic option.

MEALIS Expertise

  • Sales and marketing expertise in different therapeutic areas
  • Distributor channel management

Oncology – Extracorporeal Photopheresis (ECP)

ECP is a procedure for patients with refractory cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) and also used to treat graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) and solid organ transplant rejection. The procedure is performed through blood apheresis and exposure of separated T-cells to a psoralen derivative. Then, this is exposed to UV radiation, which results in alteration of DNA, causing cell death. These altered T-cells are returned after to the patient, resulting in a cytoxic effect.

Obstacles and Challenges

  • Collaboration needed among different departments within the hospital namely, oncology / BMT, dermatology, pediatrics, and blood bank departments
  • Different regulatory approaches for several types of products included in the system: medical devices, disposables, and pharmaceuticals
  • Continuous clinical and technical training for the end users to ensure constant treatments cycles

MEALIS Expertise

  • MEALIS long history in providing the needed technical support at the regional level
  • Deep understanding of the regulatory regulations for medical devices and pharmaceuticals with expertise in patient name basis product importation
  • Certified regional clinical application specialist in adult and pediatric ECP application to reply to end users immediate needs

Therakos therapeutic ECP platforms, includes:

  • The latest generation THERAKOS® CELLEX® Photopheresis System (the world’s only approved, fully-integrated systems for administering autologous immune cell therapy through ECP).
  • UVADEX® (Methoxsalen) sterile solution indicated for extracorporeal administration with the THERAKOS® UVAR XTS® or THERAKOS® CELLEX® Photopheresis System.

Fertility

Infertility is typically defined as the inability to achieve pregnancy after one year of unprotected intercourse. Many couples who have trouble conceiving start looking for medical help at some point. A number of different treatments are available, depending on the possible causes of infertility. There are a number of different possible causes of infertility that can be male related causes or female related. Fertility can also be affected by certain diseases and infections, as well as genetic, psychological or environmental factors

Obstacles and Challenges

  • Expensive treatments with minimal to none reimbursement in the MENA region
  • Growing market (more than 150 000 cases treated per year across the MENA in more than 100 centers) requiring adequate geographical coverage
  • Niche concept necessitating intensive marketing and evaluation pattern to reach a well-defined regional adoption level
  • Digital marketing plan for patients and end users to promote the use and the benefits of the product

MEALIS Expertise

  • MEALIS regional expertise (regulatory, logistic, technical and commercial) in new concept launching in different therapeutic areas
